When the Sky Performs
On the moving weather of life.
Have you ever seen the remarkable transitions of color in the sky before, during, and after a storm? Whether at sea or mountain or in the desert, when a weather system moves through, the display can be fierce and dramatic — or irresistibly calm and joyful.
When stormy, the wind pushes the tumbling clouds across the horizon with impressive energy — roaring and rushing across its depths.
When vivid and joyful, the sky is irresistibly beautiful, demanding the zoom of a lens to capture its shifting brilliance.
Some days the skies burst with color, and the clouds seem to dance as they glide across the wide expanse, moving with a light, effortless rhythm. Other days, we wait for the storm to pass.
Circumstances we face can resemble these weather systems. They can move us, stir us, disquiet us. Or they can carry us along as we glide through life.
We recognize its ebb and flow if we have learned to watch it as we watch the sky. The constant change and motion are like the clouds that come and go. Like the sunshine that lights our way, or the darkness that engulfs our rest.
What feels urgent today may be unnoticeable tomorrow. Keeping our peace in both seasons is no work of a fool.
As the psalmist tells us:
Be still, and know that I am God.
— Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
