Who Keeps Watch Within

On discernment and the care of the inner life.

Appropriate or not for the occasion, feelings arrive, often without an invitation. Joy, fear, doubt bring warmth or weight.

But who decides which ones can stay?

Scripture tells us,

Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee.

— Proverbs 2:11 (KJV)

Discretion notices the knock. It recognizes the footprint. It discerns what may enter — and what must depart.

It keeps us safe. It tends to us with wisdom and care.
